Why Every New Star Wars is Horrible

It pains me to see what the Star Wars franchise has become. It seems like just yesterday I was binge-watching all of the 6 Star Wars movies in my bed all in one day. Those were great times(even though 1,2,3 were bad). But now, the Star Wars franchise in my mind has become a bit of a joke. And I blame one group of people. Disney. Before Disney acquired Lucas Films, the Star Wars movies had depth and a dark story. I enjoyed this, and I had high hopes for the 7th Star Wars. Sadly, all of my hopes were put down when the ending credits started to play. I thought the story was way too short, and the death of Han Solo was factually incorrect to the comic books(in the comic books he actually dies on Earth, then Indiana Jones finds him later). But that was not the worst part. The worst part about it was that it felt like every part of the story was a cliche, and it seemed that nothing was original. I just hope that Disney did a better job on the new movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Thesis Analysis

"This is ridiculous. You know perfectly well you'll only meet me down there-so don't try to escape!" pg. 143 "The beast struggled forward, broke the ring, and fell over the steep edge of the rock to the sand by the water. At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, lept on the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws" pg. 153 This quotation is the part where Simon is brutally killed by the rest of the kids when he goes down to the beach. What is important about this passage is that it is almost an exact replica of what happens in the Bible when Jesus is brutally killed on the cross. First, he talks to the LOTF, and the LOTF warns him that if he shares his knowledge about the beastie, then he will be killed. He then tries to tell the entire island about the man in the parachute, and he is quickly turned into a martyr by being torn apart.

LOTF Passage

The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away.  Once there was this and that; and now--and the ship had gone. [... Jack refusing to give Piggy the floor when he has the conch...] "The rules!" shouted Ralph.  "You're breaking the rules!" "Who cares?" Ralph summoned his wits. "Because the rules are the only thing we've got!" But Jack was shouting against him. "Bollocks to the rules!  We're strong--we hunt!  If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down!  We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (pg. 91) This passage shows how the population of boys is a blown up version of societies traits and feelings. One trait that is shown in the population of boys is carelessness. The boy who embodies this the most is obviously Jack. As shown in the passage, he has a blatant disregard for any rule that was previously set out by Ralph or Piggy. The conch means nothing to him. Another example of this careles

Symbolism

There used to be a mother and her son. His dad left when he was little, and they were both living in a house about ten miles away from town by a large field. The mother worked at a small sawmill managing books, and the son spent every weekday going to Mrs. Getrid's second-grade class. But there was one thing that Mrs. Getrid never understood. Every day the students would go home to eat lunch, but the son never had his mother pick him up. He always walked away from school even though his house was miles away from the school. He would always come back, hungry, and would continue school like normal. The mother never even knew that the children came home for lunch. She never really paid attention to her own son, and the son knew this. But nonetheless, she worked the books for the sawmill every day managing where the money went. She was good at her job too, but there was always one aspect of the books that she would never check. That was her salary. She was quite embarrassed by how

The Farm

Throughout my entire life, I have had one place where I am always at peace. At the same time, it is also a place where a lot of toils took place over the years of my life. The place I am talking about is the farm that I would go to every Summer for a couple of weeks. I took it for granted at the time, but the work I had there and the lessons I learned will be important in the future. But I believe that the most important part of our farm is the fact of how old it is. My grandfather used to tell me how my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather came from Ireland during the potato famine to start a farm in Louisiana. I guess the tradition is to past the land down to one's posterity, and hopefully, I will be able to keep on this tradition to keep the cattle farm alive and well for the years to come. toil, posterity

LOTF

One of the most interesting things in LOTF that I find very strange is the fact that no one has died from diseases on the island. The risk is there, and so are the carriers. In fact, Ralph even mentions the fact that the boys don't have clothes on which can be a huge risk because they are not protected from the elements. Even more surprising is that they have a problem with waste management. That part is self explanatory. I definitely believe that William Golding left this out on purpose. He served in WWII, and was even apart of the Normandy Invasions. Disease would have definitely have been a concern on the battle field. Golding knew this, but he chose to leave this part out. I think that there is one simple reason for this. Dysentery would have been the major killing factor on the island. It is spread through contaminated water. I think that Golding left this out because all of the characters would have probably died if he chose to make disease a factor in their survival.

My Own Prompt

Prompt: Who was/is the most formative in your life. Why? The most formative person in my life was my Papa. Papa is what I call my grandfather. He taught me two main lessons. The first one was about work. Every summer I would go to the farm and work with Papa. We would work really, really hard. He always told me that it would all pay off in the future. He was correct because every year we would sell the cattle that we had taken care of. The second lesson is a little more ridiculous. He would always say, "if you cant go first class, then don't go." This means that one should strive for the very best, or one should not strive at all. He took this seriously in all aspects of life. He got the very best farming equipment, the very best technology, and the very best fountain pens(his hobby at the time) that he could acquire. He could do this because he worked so hard. So I guess that the first lesson that he taught me feeds into the second one.

Humans

In my opinion, humans are always evil by default. I have always thought this, and I don't really think that anything could change my mind. I think the root of it is because of greed and desire. Usually, it has to do with someone wanting something that someone else has, but then they take it without permission.  My entire life I have had experiences with evil people. I could remember when I would watch the news when I was a kid. I would see stories of people killing their own family just for money or for disagreements. And just recently a man was beaten to death with a frying pan by his girlfriend because she said that "he needed killing". Honestly, I have no idea what is going through people's heads whenever they do these things, but I don't think it is good.

Week 8 Free Writing

I noticed something very puzzling over this fall break. Every year my family takes a trip to Destin over fall break. We all have a great time as long as there are no red flags. And that was the problem with this year. Every single day that I went to the beach, there was a red flag even though the waves were very calm. Upon getting into the water, my feet fell from under me and I fell face first into the sand. It was painful, to say the least. I experienced something called under toe. It is actually very normal, and I was just stupid enough to not expect it. Under toe is caused by the waves that hit the shore and start falling back into the ocean. It creates a very powerful pulling force whenever there are strong waves. If this force is strong enough, then it can be very deadly. So just be careful the next time things look calm and always check the flag color for that day.

Week 8 Reading Response: A & P

A & P was a fascinating story in my eyes. Not only because the narrator was a pervert, but because he acted impulsively in the most stupid way possible. He quit his job because his boss was merely asking for a little bit of order in his store. He quit after first describing his shoulder fetish for these girls. Which is just even weirder on a whole different level. Is there really a problem with having only a bathing suit on in a store (in those days at least)? The 60s were a time of change. For civil rights of African Americans and for the rights of women. Women took the fight to many places that one wouldn't expect. In 1968, feminists protested at the Miss America pageant claiming that is was "sexist". For the better or for the worst, America was changing into a place where equal rights were starting to emerge. So here is the answer to the question I stated above. Was it a problem in the 1960s to walk into a store with only your bathing suit on? Yes, it was perfec

The Long Haul

We have travelled over 300 miles to get here. The cattle are tired, I am tired, and so is my horse. I have been through deserts, mountains, and swamps to get here. I met too many people to count on one hand. Some people I regret, and other I do not. Some people I met are now dead. Never would I have ever thought that I would actually get here in one piece. My plans to start a permanent ranch could finally be fulfilled in this new land of dreams and opportunity. Little did I know of the arrows that were about to kill me and 100 cattle that I had been herding for the past 3 months.

Harrison Bergeron Response

Harrison Bergeron is an interesting jab at how the future United States of America would look like. The story is set in 2081, and America has been drastically changed by a new set of amendments. These amendments form a new department of government called the Handicap General. The Handicap General's job is to make sure that all people are on equal grounds in every aspect of life. Harrison Bergeron focuses on a family that has just lost their son to the Handicap General, and their son has started a revolt by claiming to be the emperor. He is shot by a shotgun right after. One interesting part of this story is how America has completely changed from its original values. America was meant for everyone to be equal at the starting line and not the finish line. Being equal at the finishing line completely messes up society as a whole. This is because more people could put in more work than others, and yet still be equal to them. One example of this would be comparing jobs in a Communist

Narrative Reading Response

It was a very exciting in English. We had three days to work on a personal narrative that needed a purpose, significance, and vivid details. For three days every student began to hammer down on their keyboards typing wildly so that they could do a good job on their next big assignment. Below I am going to explain my experiences and some concerns with my personal narrative. So far I am quite pleased with the work that I have done so far. I am very surprised with how much work that I have gotten done in the past week, and I only have a few concerns about the quality of my personal narrative. The first one being my vivid details. I believe that I need help with my vivid details because my narrative just seems bland. I really want to fix this so that my story can enrapture the reader. Another concern that I have is my sentence fluency. My entire narrative seems like it is made up of super long sentences.

Question Dialogue

Jacob got in the car in a slow and tired way. His mother right beside him said, "How was today?" "Fine" he said as if not to give his mom more questions to answer. "How was track practice today?" she asked. "Fine, everything was just fine!" "Why are you so moody?" "Because today was a long day, and I just want to sleep" he replied.

Week 4 Reading Response

I have another interesting topic for today. So just a fair warning, this one is going to get very technical because of the level of technology that I am going to explain. So far in The Last World War , two alien races are dueling it out with futuristic technology. One of these marvelous features of engineering is the shock wave guns that one of the alien races use. The basic idea is actually very simple. A wave is something that oscillates parallel to the direction of the transfer of energy that is happening. The premise of these weapons is to make a wave so strong, that is tears other things into tiny bits in pieces because of the amount of strength in the wave. And actually, creating waves this strong isn't very hard. Explosive shock waves are the very reasons why explosions are used by various military groups. The problem is shooting the wave in a precise direction, and harnessing that much power in a small form factor. Those are the two details that the author chooses to leav

Dear 9 year old

Dear 9 year-old, A wise man once said, "If you don't take none, there wont be none." Take this with you everywhere you go. If someone pushes you back, push back ten times harder. Otherwise, they will just keep on pushing. Eventually once you push hard enough, you will reach a point where there will be no more pushing, and all will be equal. Also another thing. Please watch what you eat. You are not a teenager yet, and please don't just go around eating everything you see. Just trust me on this one. Eventually you will get to the point where you keep adding on weight, and it will be harder for you to exercise because of how slow you are. Then that just begins a never ending cycle of cholesterol coursing through your veins. Sincerely, A 14 year-old

9/11

September 11, 2001, is when America started to be conquered by fear. On this day, 2 planes struck the World Trade Center, 1 plane hit the Pentagon, and the last plane crashed down away from its initial target(White House). 2,977 innocent people died because of a large group of radical Islamic terrorists called Al-Queda. Only 19 hijackers took part in this attack, and yet they murdered such a large amount of people. Thankfully, the U.S. started to take charge for once, and George Bush initiated the war on terror. 9/11 sparked the invasion of Afghanistan. This was the first step of the war on terror. This was because the Taliban was harboring Al-Queda and the United States took it upon themselves to end it. We were mainly looking for one guy. Osama bin Laden was suspected to be the main culprit in carrying out the September 11 attacks. George Bush demanded that the Taliban should hand him over to them, but the Taliban denied any involvement of Osama bin Laden in the terrorist attacks.

Week 3 Reading Response

Last time I discussed wormholes and the difference of language between two species in The Last World War . So far the book has taken a very drastic turn. Human and alien have finally made contact, and the result of this is quite surprising. For this reading response, I am going to discuss how language has added lots of depth to the plot line. Language is a method of communication. We humans communicate; in this book, aliens have their own language, and humans have their own language. This creates what is called a language boundary. The author took a very unique approach to solving this problem. Instead of equipping the aliens with translators so that there is seamless communication, the author decides to provide aliens with a device that turns words into pictures. So when a sentient life form uses it, an image will pop into the other party's head. I find this very unique because even if humans and aliens don't speak the same language, then they still have something in common.

That was a Close One

Every year there are 4 seasons. And each season for my grandfather meant that he would have to call his buddies(including me) so that we could give the cattle their medication and split and tag the new born calves. Only this story isn't set in the confines of my grandfather's farm. This time we had to help on of my grandfather's buddies with his calves. I was sweating a lot. Perfectly usual, but I really just wanted to go home. There was only one thing left to do, and that was to load up just one cow for Bob to take away to the stock yard. There was only one problem, this cow wasn't exactly ecstatic about going in to the trailer, so we really just had to force her in. When she finally got in, she kicked the rear of the trailer and ran through the gate. Before my grandfather and I knew it, there was a 1 ton cow heading our way. We both jumped out of the way, but it was seriously close. On that day, I got in the car, and I said that we were lucky that we weren't hur

Week 2 Reading Response

The Last World War So far I have really enjoyed The Last World War . The book starts out with a marine reserve squad doing annual training for their duty. They then encounter an alien species that infiltrate Earth by using wormholes that jump two places in space and time to another. There are already a couple things that stand out. One of them being the accurate depiction of an alien's language. By default alien movies go with the cliche and depict the aliens speaking English. This book shows the aliens speaking an entirely different language, therefore creating a language barrier. Another thing that stood out to me is the entirely inaccurate depiction of wormholes. In real theory, wormholes aren't actually confirmed, so we don't really know if they even exist. What we do know is that if they exist, then a huge amount of energy would be required to keep on open for a long period of time. A wormhole in the Earth's atmosphere would cause spontaneous combustion of the

High School - My Thoughts and Goals

The entire time that I was in Middle School, I would think about the next level on the food chain, high school. The first day was not exceedingly bad like I thought it would be. Teachers just introduced themselves and their courses, and I wasn't really worried. I still feel the same, and I hope that I can reach my goals for this year and throughout high school.  I have a couple of goals for life that I would like to reach in the next 4 years. First of which being my choice of college. I have had a list of 3 colleges for a while now, and mainly because I have always known what I have wanted. The three main colleges that I would like to apply for are MIT, Stanford, and Harvard. I know that I will have to work hard to achieve this goal, and I am ready to go full speed ahead to reach it.

Code Name Varity - My Thoughts

Code Name Verity was definitely an interesting read for the summer. I chose this book for two main reasons. It is based on WW2 and actual stories from WW2, and it also takes a new spin on the idea of men fighting in WW2.  Code Name Verity is about 2 women who are friends who fight in WW2 and eventually get stranded in Axis Territory by crashing a plane and by being spies. The pilot crashes and joins the French Resistance, and the spy gets captured by the Gestapo and is brutally interrogated. In the end, their paths meet once again, and something surprising happens. When I first began to read this book, I had an optimistic lookout for the end. I believed that just like every other young-adult book(it would end happily). Sadly this isn't that kind of book. At the end of this book, I was disappointed, heartbroken, and just plain mad. I won't spoil it, but the surprising thing that I mentioned was not happy. But I think that is just another quality of this book. It was r
